No matter which direction you travel you will find amazing scenery and lush landscapes in Burke County. Rolling hillsides climb to towering Table Rock and Hawksbill mountains.
At the foot of the Shortoff mountain is Lake James with 6500 surface acres and over 150 miles of shoreline. The Catawba River flows from Lake James in the western mountains to Lake Rhodhiss in eastern Burke County. Both lakes provide great fishing and boating.
